I took it as a compliment a few months ago when the boss noted that my students seemed to have better stick and rudder skills than students of the guy I replaced... that instructor emphasized the proper response to situations with such things as the "ABCs" of emergencies and the"5 Cs" of go-arounds.
I have nothing against memory aids, but I don't personally use such things as "CIGARS" or "Lights, Camera, Action." And I know how to go-around without consciously thinking of each step.
There are a few of us old dogs still around to teach. And there is a lot of pressure to change our ways... but I want the pilots I train to learn what I learned.
