So that's what they were looking at when the decision was make to divert to BDL. Nothing there to indicate that they shouldn't be able to get in, refuel, and get in in about 30 minutes.
JetBlue had a lot of flights divert that day, only 6 were sent to BDL. Others are sent to ACY (where Jetblue doesn't even have a station), RIC, and others. The loss of the ILS capability at EWR really made a mess of things as EVERYBODY was diverting EVERYWHERE. Some flights get the best alternates but other flights are stuck with alternates that are less than ideal. During flight planning, they're fueled for the closer alternates but when a mass-diversion situation occurs they all can't go there.
Just read an article about the situation which mentioned PIT. Says that PIT, a much larger airport, has the resources to handle 18 diversions. BDL alone had 26.
