Careful. I've got a couple of hundred hours in that airplane.

Really?! How so? What's it like to fly?

Mac

I thought of nothing else while posting....

But, we are always ready for more North Sea stories...

The 14 passes one is my favorite...scary, but good...

The Gannet makes me want to quote Arnold Schwarzenegger's description of the alien in "Predator".

Hi Bruce,
Now… I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, but the Fairey Gannet? Let’s just say it’s one of those airplanes that looks like it relies on brute force instead of aerodynamics to fly<g> Also… how is it a guy can just tell by sight… yup, it’s a Britt? Sorry, butt-ugly comes to mind<gd&r>

That said I’d sure like to hear about your time with Janet… er… Gannet.

Regards,
Tom Charlton (who also thinks the A-10 and the AN-2 are ugly but would like to have his way with them<g>)

How does it go?

"If it looks weird, it's British; if it looks ugly, it's French; if it looks weird and ugly it's Russian."

Yeah, that's it! :-)

It flies well. That version (the trainer) does about 280 on the deck. Handling is very nice. It's a good trainer. Note the periscope for the back seat pilot. For an early-50s design, it's OK. It's very efficient at converting jet fuel to noise. The props are very noisy.
