With a recent cold front passage, this afternoons blue sky was filled with contrails (while sitting on the porch with a Busch). Central Florida. One contrail was different. It had a puff about twice the width of the contrail and spaced about 4x the width of the contrail. If its some kind of pulse engine, that seem s too far apart unless it was supersonic. Unfortunately, I didn't see it go by, to judge its speed. Maybe a normal engine with stomach trouble?

I have seen conditions where the bottom of the cotrail layer was wavy. So an airplane flying just along the bottom could be in and out of the conditions required to for contrail ice. Same with the tops. We used to carefully find the tops and bottoms when flying combat air patrols so we could mark only when we wanted to.

The "Wave-Form" also has vertical displacements, sometimes sufficient enough for visual note of trail disontinuity while maintaining a given Flight Level: > ___ ___ ___ ___ _________>
