Mail handler mystery

My son's email address is <[his first name]@[his full name].net>. We have
been communicating for years. I use Optimum and Firefox.

Four days ago my email to him was returned as undeliverable. I have
continued to communicate satisfactorily with other people and with his other
two email addresses, like gmail for one. He has been communicating with
other people using the problem mail handler without a problem. Using
Optimum's mail handler directly (bypassing Firefox), I can communicate with
him via the problem email address. Optimum Help Desk finds no problem. It
failed to deliver twice today, so it's not a one-time-thing.

What's the problem?

Ward,

Try using Firefox to browse [his full name].net. I'll bet you get a message
about the site's certificate not being valid or not being trusted. "Page not
found" is OK.

The other possibility is that the mail server for [his full name].net does
not trust a Firefox/Mozilla sender.

If you let us know the error message, you will get much higher quality
guesses.

What are you using for a email client? As far as I know, you can't send email directly from a browser - you have to be connected to a web page of a mail system.

If by chance you are sending a email "direct" and not though a server, I think most email systems these days will reject a email being sent directly from a "end user" IP address as it's 99% likely to be spam from a infected computer. Those mail systems will only accept a email from a "real" email server - that is, a "business" IP.

Secondly, some email systems are not picky about certain details on the "spelling" of the email. For example, I've heard that gmail ignores periods. So , FirstName.Lastname@gmail.com will work just the same as FirstNameLastName@gmail.com. The email system in question might have gotten picky about spelling so what used to work no longer does. And along those line, technically, email is case sensitive. But few emails systems work that way. You might want to triple check the spelling of the email address against what he's been sending to you.

Last, check to see what email you're sending "from" against what email service you're sending though. At one time it was ok to claim to be me@abc.com and send via a stmp@xyz.com. But because of spam, many systems no reject that as improper. A email that's set to be "from" abc.com will have to be sent though abc.com's server or it will be rejected.
