Someone on another board said the flight from DaNang landed with two additional passengers (compared to departure).

Well, it wasn't an airline, but my personal record was two monkeys (honest) and three people in a Cessna-172 one night. I filed for five souls on board. ATC asked about that, of course, and I explained. After that there was a pause and ATC asked, "Which monkey is flying the airplane?" I told him it was the woolly monkey. We could hear them laughing on their reply, but all they said was, "Cleared to..."

Admittedly, I lie a lot--but this story is true. I maintain it is a record for a C-172.

A distinctive flight for sure. Toast!

My Ed was a chief pilot at UAL.
He was also a NASA U2 pilot.

Wonder if it was the same guy?

Hell of a story. I don't know if I have the exact date... but I personally took the last U.S. Marines out of Danang.

On refugee trips, it got dicey, but nothing like that story.

I remember our loadmaster having to threaten refugees who wanted to bring their personal belongings on board... there was no room for luggage.

I was with the Cav near the end of the war. Task Force Garry Owen was the last American ground force in RVN near Ben Hoa; the 101st still had a unit up north. We left just before them. Of course, I moved to other units like a perimeter command at Ben Hoa, then with the Air Cav of F Troop until I went home. Don't recall when the Marines left, but I remember hearing it. Of course, bib pomp and ceremony around those units leaving. Many folks just went on to other duties like I did or becoming Viet advisors.

That's me at the ceremony to retire the colors. Did that for the 2/5 and 1/7th Cav.

Sorry. I tried to re-size and couldn't get it to work. I'll have to try again later.
