Guinness World Records world-records
The greatest number of passengers ever carried by a commercial airliner is 1,088, by an El Al Boeing 747 during Operation Solomon, which involved the evacuation of Ethiopian Jews from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and started on 24 May 1991. This figure included two babies born on the flight.

Yup, now that you talk about it, I do recall reading about it in the LAX paper when I was still flying those "whales" out in the Pacific. We did carry more than normal on the "south of Tokyo" aircraft since the Filipinos were smaller PX. But nothing like that El Al evac flight, IIRC only 421 peeps on ours.

Sigh, about 18 or so years ago, a large group of retired Northwest pilots, spouses, families, etc, were on an 18 day trip through China.

It started from LAX. I looked up the pilot attendees and found that we had over 100 Boeing 747 Captains. We were scheduled on a B-747. I call Guinness and asked if I could document that would it be a record number of B-747 Captains flying on a B-747? They thought it was worth a try.

Damn, the airline (China Air or China East?) -changed aircraft at the last days to a MD-11. Same thing returning.

Thus no record.

Regards,

Dux -I agree with Randy, I think the most passengers I've ever carried was about 420 flying South out of Narita. Circa 1993-96.

Our C-130 was supposed to carry 110 pax, but with combat loading (sitting on the floor, hanging onto straps across the cargo compartment) I once had 149 Vietnamese refugees on board.

Of course, once the first one vomited, most of the rest decided it was a good idea, too.
