Looked kinda like the will-it-start scene in Flight of the Phoenix <g>.

Yup, sure did, noticed that it also appeared to be feathered, same with the other. I also wonder how they're coming with that one up here at the Anoka airport?

Vernon Thorp and I flew the one we had in the CAF many years ago, that one had been a "gate guardian" at Lackland AFB. IIRC, on that one Merlin 23s. First few prototypes were the Merlins and the production ones Allisons.

After they got it running for a bit and shut it down, it was no longer
feathered, but at a fairly high pitch setting. My guess is that it takes a
few seconds of oil pressure to unfeather.

Given that the pitch should have been low at the low RPMs at which they ran
the engine, I speculate either they had the prop control set to full high
pitch or they've got a propeller control issue which could only have shown up
at engine start.

Ray, had the same thoughts here. Also, thinking back to our T-6 days at Moultrie, always pulled them back to high pitch before shutdown, and on starting, waiting until we had oil pressure and then moved it to low pitch.

I think "The Story" is a bad link.

Got it that time. Tom Reilly has a standing offer of $10 million for the airplane, but he's holding out for some real money.

Chuckle Bruce, based upon some long standing thoughts/knowledge, (a-Tom has) or (b-Tom says that he has) that standing offer? <g>
