Virtual Reality with Flight Simulators
      #431426 - 10/07/16 09:06 PM

I just had my first experience with a first class virtual reality setup and it seemed to me to be an excellent platform for a flight simulator, especially in VMC. Anybody have any experience with this? It could be a lot of fun for those of us who have gotten too old or to cheap to fly real airplanes.

Rod,

Which device did you use?

I really don't know. It was in the Microsoft store and it had sensors in the ceiling to keep track of my position, etc. I thought it was high end. I was in an underwater scene and was nearly convinced I (long time scuba diver) was under the ocean. Does Microsoft make VR stuff?

Hi Rod,
Not me, but I wish!
It’ll be interesting to see all the directions this technology goes, as it grows and evolves, in coming years. Certainly aviation but also medical and limitless entertainment possibilities.

Most likely Microsoft HoloLens

While the price hasn't officially been announced, the development units are expected to be $3,000. Not much more than pocket change when compared to the cost of owning a real airplane.

Um, yes, about those "entertainment possibilities". Any guesses what one of the first ones will be? <VBG> The movie Brainstorm foresaw that.

You will need a bit more than visual and audio for THAT. :)

I am looking forward to affordable VR for air to air combat sims.
