So is real duct tape, the stuff with which you seal heating ducts.

Au contraire, Ray! Duct tape is grey fabric, the "600MPH Speed Tape" that Mase and I and others are talking about is shiny/aluminum.

best, randy

Randy,

Grow'n up on a ranch in west Texas I always thought the greatest invention in modern farming was the aluminum scoop shovel. :)

Sorry, Randy, but you seal heating ducts with a rather expensive aluminum
peel-and-stick tape. The gray fabric stuff simply does not stick to metal
heating ducts for long.

I also found that most anything could be fixed with bailing wire and an "Oklahoma idiot wrench".

Yup, concur strongly with all that - but the stuff commonly referred to as "duct" tape (also sometimes incorrectly "duck") tape and sold as that in hardware stores is not the aluminum stuff that was used in aviation and Mase and I were BS'ing about. I can still recall them wrapping the 580's fuselage with it and then ferrying it back to MSP from FSD after it'd hit KELO's TV tower and the prop blade's schapnel had sorta "did it's thing" on the fuselage's skin.

One other I still remember was after the wind had shoved one of our 727's into the Toronto terminal's gate area and I recall them scabbing/riveting a big aluminum panel onto the fuselage's side and wrapping it with that "600 MPH" tape (I could still see the ramp through a hole in the floor under the F/O's rudder pedals from the inside the cockpit ) and then ferrying it back to MSP.

Chuckle, good old daze.

best, randy
