I upgraded my wife's Lenovo laptop from 8.1 to 10 and she thinks 10 is better.

I'm going to stay with Win7-64 on my FS machine.

My brief experience with early versions of 8 tells me 10 would have to be better.

My main use for the real PC is also FS (and some video stuff that works just fine right now), so I'll be staying with Win7-64 also. Maybe I'll get adventurous on the VM on the Mac (running Win7-64 also). Or not <g>

He says it's basically a touchscreen interface that condescends to let you use a mouse until you've seen the error of your ways. Also bombards him with advertising, and pesters him to switch to their antivirus.

Waaaay back, when 8.x came out, that was my take, and others too. At that point it looked and worked like a tablet/phone OS, period. Apple has incorporated some iOS like stuff into OS X, which on my laptop generally only work if I use the trackpad. I don't, nor does the OS try to encourage me to.

Hey, if folks like W10, glad that's working out for 'em, it's obviously a step up from 8.x, functionality-wise. The other crap, cash for games, required auto-update on some versions for certain core parts of the OS, non-preventable data collection, no thanks. And, really, OS flame wars seem so... retro ;-)

When I was young, Grasshopper, it was between Post and K+E slide rules <g>.

For me, it was TI vs. HP calculators.

I haven't run into any of that yet. Not sure I've seen anything that's better (than 8.1), either. It's been about a week since I upgraded.

I thought they fixed that with 8.1?

8 was a touch screen interface, but AFAIK 8.1 and 10 allow you a Win 7 type of screen.

And I split the difference.

People were starting to use calculators in college, but many still have a slide rule on their belt.

Here's an article that calls it if "Microsoft's best operating system to date".
