Considering the move to "the cloud", this pales in comparison of what any cloud provider has on you.

While people frequently get up in arms about Microsoft, it seems time and again, they're a software company with little interest in people's data.

That's more than I can say about "the big G" which is an analytics company that packages you up for the advertisers.

looks like my word 2003 may be in trouble if I upgrade.

A quick read seems to indicate that it's not supported, but some are reporting that at least Word seems to work OK.

I have used Open office and LIbre OFfice as replacements for word and Excel. I didn't like their Access look alike though.

I had the update to Windows 10 show up today on one of my Win 7 machines, but not the other. I thought I had it locked out, but apparently not. I'm not sure which update set it off. Eventually I'll figure it out.

You probably removed the update responsible, but forgot to tell it to not re-install. So it came back in along with all the other updates this week.

Maybe, maybe not. A current article here indicates MS may be narrowing the options.

FWIW, I updated W7 Pro last week, (manually, as always), with only the security updates (I haven't even looked at the optional updates for years). No nag stuff here.

For my situation, being as I never use Windows to browse, email, or do anything online other than occasionally check for updates on 3 or 4 apps, the security issues aren't really relevant either. I also disable my network connection unless I'm doing those limited online tasks.

Bill, out of curiosity, did you ever "reserve" the Windows 10 upgrade on either of those machines?
