On the lock screen..

Sounds like it is an easy hack, like doing a Rubic's cube blindfolded....who sits around and thinks up this crap?

Thanks. I only use a password when traveling. When I did the upgrade, I had to go through three different set ups turning off stuff they wanted on: location services, I cloud, password etc. I don't use any of that stuff except when traveling I will put in a password. I back up to my computer, not I cloud. Some how Apple screwed up my password when I got a new I-pad and I don't use it more than needed. Tried to change and they said the new one was being uses. I'll figure it out sometime, but it's just not worth spending a lot of time on now. It still grates on me that I need to enter a password to download free things including Foreflight upgrades.

Indeed. I haven't upgraded to iOS 9 but tried the hack on my iOS 8 iPhone. I believe it would've worked except for the fact that iOS 8 doesn't have the "share" option when entering a city on the clock screen. That must've been added in iOS 9.

But while following the hack "how to" I couldn't help thinking "how in the world did someone figure this out?"

I checked the box , just to be safe. No Siri from locked phone.

Dave, is your phone an iPhone5 or older? Mine is, and I'm wondering if I should do it.

Yes Rod. I have a 5 but don't have a password right now. I checked and don't see where I have the option. If you use a password, that option may come up. I sometimes program passwords when traveling near former marines :) None around right now. My finger does twitch around former Naval Aviators, but I resist the temptation most times. If the war stories get toooo exaggerated, I program the phone.

I just installed it. Took 45 minutes to download and install. Seems to work OK>

Same way they used to find Easter eggs? Too much time... Btw, that "fix" assumes (in iOS 8.3 anyway) that Siri is already on. It was the first thing I turned off, so when it's off that lock option isn't available. Speaking of which, there's the simple (short numeric) passcode and the real deal. Don't get using the simple option <shrug>

If you want to consider a very doable OS X exploit, this guy found an interesting one. Very long and detailed article, may be of interest. I downloaded the app he wrote, which has amusing initials (which I'm guessing were intentional), that's available here.
