A friend of my son's had a good vantage point for the recent warbird fly-past over the Mall on DC. Photos HERE.

That photo of the Stearman made me recall why I'd told myself that l'd never, ever do another Army paint job on one, the all yellow USN's far easier, way too much masking and stuff on an Army blue and yellow one!

best, randy

Had dinner with Stan Musick last night. Turns out he flew one of the Mustangs in the fly-past. Said it was a wonderful experience.

Cap'n, is Stan Musick related to Cap'n Ed Musick?

Rick -- I think that was "my" Mustang, that Stan flew with me two Julys ago. And that you very much for having working it out with him when he got stuck in Muncie (I think it was?) due to wx.

Scott,

He told me which one it was - first one following one of the bombers, but I don't recall whether he said B-25 or B24. There was some beer involved.

I did ask him about the TBM that had to break off and land at National. Apparently they first thought he had a fire, but it was streaming hydraulic fluid. Apparently the airplane had been used for some press rides and a photographer stepped on a hydraulic line while trying to position himself for a shot - and damaged the line. Turned out there was a guy at National who was an A & P and had spent some time swinging wrenches on warbirds. He made up and installed a replacement bit of line and the pilot flew the airplane out in a matter of about four hours. Stan said they were at dinner when they were surprised by the TBM flying by.

Warmest regards,
Rick
