Flight Plan Reserves - B738 FMS

The Smith FMS (B738) asks for the RESERVES on the PERF INIT on page 1. Based on the flight plan above what would be the Reserves?

International Reserve (10 PCT) + Alternate (ALTN) + Hold fuel (INTL HOLD)

In this case, enter 6.4 into the FMS.

This is the minimum fuel at your arrival airport. When the FMS projects arriving will less than this amount it will give an "INSUFFICIENT FUEL" FMC message.

The additional ETOPS fuel (ETP ADD) is confusing in this situation because it is required fuel at takeoff but is no longer required fuel at landing because, by then, the ETOPS segment is over. The reason you need additional ETOPS fuel is that an ETOPS diversion requiring descent (such as a loss of pressurization) will require significantly more fuel than the crossing at normal altitude.

BTW, you need to offload a couple of passengers. The ramp fuel is planned at 43.012 which is only 2 pounds of extra fuel and puts you at your max takeoff weight. The fueler can't fuel the "12" pounds as the gauges only display "43.0" so you're either don't have the required fuel or are overweight for takeoff. :)

Larry,

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me.

I didn't know about the "43.0". :-))

Sure you did. Just look at the (simulated) fuel panel. :)

Bill,
Your not under the influence of some simulated alcohol RU?

If so, you may simulate a 12 hour delay until departure....

I am amazed at the level of detail and, apparently, fidelity with the real thing.

Mac,

And yet, you need a passport and clearance to fly the "real " Sim....

Yeah, it looks just like a part 121 ETOPS release.

Only six? That doesn't include the weather and NOTAMs, then...
