Aren't they in Pasadena?
As to the incident, Delta's policy for when a passenger with a severe nut allergies requests accommodation, they will refrain from serving peanuts within three rows of the passenger's row. This is in compliance with the requirements of the Air Carrier Access Act. Some airlines will refrain from serving nuts to anyone of the allergic passengers flight. Other airlines don't serve peanuts at all.
Since the accommodation that Delta offers is consistent with the ACAA, if a passenger isn't happy with that accommodation they'd be well advised to book on an airline that will do more.

Peanut allergies can sometimes be very serious and life-threatening.
However if I had a kid with an allergy that serious, that getting within 3 rows of peanuts could be lethal, I don't believe I would take him on a public conveyance of any type. And I certainly wouldn't threaten the flight crew. That's a no-no.

Mitch,
Can you "mask up" for peanut dust, or is there a chemical vapor?
