New capital sounds like a good thing for Cirus to me. The Jet program certainly could be accelerated as a result of this deal.

A wag on another board remarked that if China keeps buying aviation companies they'll be broke in no time!

"A shot in the arm for Cirrus," is how Avweb says the CEO is spinning this.

More like "a shot in the head." I find it hard to fathom that anyone would seriously accept the idea that the Chinese intend to keep making Cirrii (or TCM engines) in this country for much longer than it takes them to transfer the technology and get their plants running.

>>the idea that the Chinese intend to keep making Cirrii (or TCM engines) in this country<<

$30/hour overseas vs. $15/day at home is pretty compelling.

Yeah, iff'n I worked for them, I'd be polishing up my resume on the theory that it's better to get off the RMS Tita-, er, Cirrus sooner rather than later.

OK, how soon til CAAC grants a Validation of Type Certificate (VTC) for the Cirrus ? That's when the fun begins...

And now it gets political...
http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/194849/group/homepage/

Although I doubt there's much to stop this from going through in all actuality. Regardless of the Congressman's party affiliation, he's doing the same thing any person representing his or her district would do in the case of the feared potential loss of a lot of high-paying, highly skilled jobs to overseas. You have to at least show your constituants you know and give a damn, even if the effort is ultimately futile.

Best,
Andy

To me, the national security angle seems an embarrassing reach. But, yes, just trying to keep jobs in the area is a worthwhile goal. Of course, the rebuttal from the CEO is that if Cirrus doesn't get a quick infusion of cash, there won't be any jobs left to save.

How did Cirrus go from being hugely successful - shipping more planes than Cessna - to running out of cash?

Joe
