No More New Mooneys?

Mooney Aircraft is laying off almost everyone. They will have about 2% of the workforce that they had two years ago.

At least they plan to continue to supply spare parts.

At "less then 10 employees" I wonder if they'll continue to make any parts.

Yeah, I suspect that's a euphemism for selling off the parts inventory.

In the late Sixties I was acquainted with a guy in Miami whose entire business was selling Gooney Bird parts to the various operators in the Caribbean and South America. He had a warehouseman and a secretary, period, and he would go to gubmint surplus auctions and bid three or four bucks a pound on crates marked "Parts, C-47, OEM, nomenclature unknown". When they arrived at the shop, it was Christmas morning...;-)

Could be that they plan to do it like Univair supposedly does: Not make more parts until that particular stock number is exhausted and somebody wants one.

Or maybe they'll sell the TC and tooling to Univair once they run the inventory down, the way that they did for the Ercoupe.

Matter of fact, Univair already has a Mooney TC: the M-10, which is actually a single-tailed Ercoupe.

Maybe he figures if a well-known and respected professional writer and speechifier like Ralph Hood can use that term, it must be OK <G>.

A Leftpondian colloquialism that predates texting...which I still don't do if I don't have to.
