Mooney Status ?
      #280203 - 02/03/10 04:24 PM

It's been a bit over a year since Mooney announced it was "temporarily suspending production".

The web site is still there and it looks like they are selling new airplanes, so what are the facts for the "Kerrville Komet"?

Are they back, and if so, when did they resume production?

I notice that Mooney's ad in the AVweb email newsletter says "immediate delivery from current inventory". That doesn't specifically say they're not manufacturing planes, but it's pretty close.

Interesting - I wonder how many they've sold in the last year and how many more they have in inventory?

I hope they start selling a bunch soon. They make a nice airplane (even if it IS a little small for us Tall/Wide bodies <g>) and Gunny proved that it's one of the fastest rides in town.

Think someone could get them to provide an optional cockpit blister/bubble for head clearance?

I flew an Executive 21 for a couple of hundred hours a long time ago with no problem with head or leg room (I'm 6'3"). It did seem a bit narrow.

Tom,

You going to have to say "No thank you" to some of those pizza pies.

Mooneys shouldn't be a problem for tall people. Lots of legroom and head room. AAMOF, if you're much under 5'9", you'll probably have trouble reaching the pedals.

For wide people, well, that's another story.

<< They make a nice airplane. . . . it's one of the fastest rides in town. >>

You got that right.

Best,

Bob

Bob,
You got that right. Reaching the pedals on the M20K is a real struggle for me and I'm 5'9". Seems that by the time you get the seat up close enough to reach the pedals the yoke is in your chest. A set of pedal extensions would probably be in order for someone that's 5'9" or shorter.

I took a demo in an Ovation 2 about 3 years ago (me 6' 3" and 250#) and found it very comfy. Narrow, yes, but lots of fore/aft adjustment on the seats so that as long as the seats aren't aligned directly the shoulder room was OK. Nobody over the age of 8 would be able to sit behind me, but that's the breaks.

If someone could combine the legroom of the Mooney with the cabin width of the Saratoga, that'd be a winner!

Dear Mr. Rellimhtug,

<<Seems that by the time you get the seat up close enough to reach the pedals the yoke is in your chest.>>

I'm 5'9". I used to keep it one click away from full forward.

IIRC, those pedals are for turning while taxiing, right?

BTW, I was going to say, "Welcome to AVSIG; I haven't seen your name around here much" . . . until I realized who you were!

Bob
