SWA: We deliver!
      #275249 - 12/05/09 07:35 AM

A woman gave birth to a baby boy on a Southwest flight from Chicago, which
diverted to Denver. A doctor and two nurses on board, assisted by flight
attendants and an in-flight medical radio service, helped the mother deliver
her baby.

I assume this baby was premature.

I also assume that any Doctor would recommend that a late pregnant woman NOT take commercial aircraft for obvious reasons.

Nice ending except a lot of reschedule problems for other passengers, and a lot of additional costs for SWA.

Most doctors do not recommend a woman fly in her last month. Sometimes a woman doesn't know closely what her due date is however.

According to the usual media reports, she was due in mid-January.

Hi Ray

I have no reason to not believe that her due date could have indeed been in January.

I'm no doctor for sure, but many newer aircraft with better engines are flying at higher altitudes than the older B727/DC-9 birds. Thus the cabin altitudes are somewhat higher for longer periods of time. This has been noted by the AARP in an awareness article a few years ago.

Regards,

Dux
