Hi Bruce,

And thanks Scott.

I know several who are in the 495 group. Sad for them and their families. Hopefully as you say things will continue to pick up and the furlough will be of short duration.

I've been pretty busy the last few months but don't know if that would apply across the fleets.

Johnny

I have a coworker that is constantly getting outbid or is too late on houses in the $400-500K (median for the area he is looking in) range. He is a 1st time buyer with cash in hand.

Ward -- It's going to be a mixed bag for a while, so I'm not surprised that
the different segments are recovering (or not!) in different ways. I was
talking to my insurance broker the other day, and she was relating the story
of another client with a $4m Hamptons place (at least, that was the value
when she bought it a few years ago) that she just unloaded for a little over
$2m, just to get some money out. The high end still isn't great.....

Scott,

<<The high end still isn't great.....>>

The mid end isn't great either. Most of the activity that we're seeing in the national statistics is in the sub $250k market, with a lot of that being financed by FHA (Son of Subprime).

Mid-priced homes, which in our area are $500 - $1 mil, are still moving very slow and prices are still dropping. I'm seeing 6-figure price reductions in one move. There is one house near me that was listed earlier this year for $1.25 mil that is now asking $875k. One price reduction was $250k. Jumbo mortgages are almost non-existent, unless your financial situation and credit is so strong that you don't need a mortgage.

I've been renting since coming back to NY, but I will be a buyer soon. I submitted a few bids in '07 and '08 -- thank God they were turned down.

--------------------
Best,

Bob

Bob -- Did you go to the parade? I was looking for you in the Yankee garb.

Sure was a mess on the train in this morning. Every hoodlum
imaginable...typical Yankees fans. <G> I like my quiet car and I didn't get
it today.

Well airline pilot furloughs were a way of life for Dux.

At NWA we had 2,000 pilots in January 1970.

After a major strike (not pilots) in July, we had 670 pilots.

Got back to 2,000 pilots in 1997-98. Then moved up to 3,600 by the early 2000-2001.

OK, after 9/11 lost almost 800 pilots again. Most, (not all) now rehired.

Sigh, I would never recommend any of my grandkids to look for a commercial pilot career.

Yep, I've been lucky in the big picture -but that's the important word, lucky.

Delta has over 12,000 pilots on their list -some still on furlough -all former NWA.

Still,... I loved flying and still do -so it seems likely that Dux would do all that stuff again.

Regards,

Dux -from sunny Tucson and not on furlough -just retired.
