Assuming you have Windows XP, make sure the box at the top "Show Updates" is checked......

Yes it is, but, as I wrote, there are no security updates listed prior to 9/14/2006.

Maybe I should just reinstall Windows. The person on the phone keeps putting me on hold for long periods of time while he goes and does research.

Rick,

Thanks again for the reference. I needed help form MS Tech support (which was free for this issue) in order to uninstall the Security Update -- we had to do it "manually" as it did not appear in the Install/Remove Programs page. But it worked and I can now again use the CI$ dialup internet connection.

I never would have found this fix without your help.

Best wishes,

Ron, I'm glad it worked. I installed the "fixed" update without uninstalling
the bad update. Worked, for some reason.

Mase,

Small world department, when I was troubleshooting the script problem I found
a thread initiated by someone else with the issue: Tony Broderick, likely
the former CIS sigrat and head of flight standards at FAA. His thread helped
me solve the problem so I guess it's really true: he's from the FAA and he's
here to help us. <g>

Rick,

I was not able to access the "fixed update". When I clicked on the links, I
was taken to a screen that checked to see if I needed any updates -- of
course, I did not since I already had that update.

However, after we uninstalled the update, my system reinstalled the revised
update automagically.

Could have spent 1/2 the time on the phone with MS support if they didn't
have to read through their list of useless and irrelevant questions.

But all is well now.

You could have searched on the KB number and just downloaded the update from that page. Each update is described in a Knowledge Base (KB) article and the update is available on that page for downloading and installing outside of Windows Update.

Terry,

The update referenced on the KB page, where it said "download update" took me
to a page that checked my computer for updates. There was no link, that I
could find, that just took me someplace where I could download the update and
install it. Maybe it was there, but it was not obvious to me.
