Help: Dead motherboard (IDE drives). [Re: Joe Budge (W29)]
      #128226 - 09/30/06 06:15 AM

Thanks Joe. I plan to put one of the old RAID 1 EIDE drives in my new machine
to transfer data. Will still have to re-install XP etc. Not a problem, just
time.

Best,
Jay

That's what I did last year for my daughter's machine; cost $275 for a proc,
mobo, and one new disk. For me, I've decided to go to the new Intel Core 2
proc etc.

Best,
Jay

I was going to mirror my drives, but for the OS drive, I got to thinking the same thing, some things will corrupt both drives. IN fact that happened this weekend (of course the thing that corrupted the registry was ME).

So pick up a cheap 80 GB drive and clone the OS drive every so often. Probably an external so it won't run all the time.

Nice thing about doing multiple logical drives, you don't have to back up EVERYTHING. :)
