Frank -- Somewhat the same experience, here. Often, you have to file for somewhere else to get the route you want, then change.

I've tried to negotiate 10-14,000' on occasion, as soon after departure as possible to climb out of a lower icing layer, on a route that usually takes me over JFK and down V1. I have several times been stuck at 6,000' until talking to ACY. :-( Remarks didn't help.

(Yeah, I understand that I'm a speed bump over WHITE or DIXIE much higher than 6,000', but there's got to be some way to get higher on some route within 45 degrees of my desired course.)

The ARTCC computer is going to spit out the canned (standard) route regardless of the remarks, and then it'll probably be issued by possibly the most junior trainee in the tower without much thought. At that point, you might well have to squawk a bit to get their attention. Sad, but true...nonetheless, if you've put the remarks in the flight plan it's hard for them to claim blissful ignorance later on, and they might even realize that they should have picked up on it sooner when you reiterate the request.

Concur with all, Scott. But I don't have the option (in any practical sense) of starting off to a "subterfuge" destination, because I'm headed into the FRZ. :-(

Frank -- Yeah, you're screwed.

(I was wondering recently if you're continuing to do the commute by air.)

Well, Scott...

Things have gotten interesting in that regard. Life's circumstances have changed such that I now need only to be in CT for a couple of days every three weeks or so...and that too may decrease. I flew down here on 30 Jan, and what with a vacation, a run of nasty weather, and a bad cold, I didn't fly until a couple of days ago - when I made a short flight to deliver N631S into annual.

Not sure how all this is going to shake out in terms of my aviating. Time will tell, thanks for asking.

Frank
