Randy,

I have a ANG and AF Reserve paint, but it is for the B377 and not the C-97. For those not familiar with the two aircraft the C-97 has wx radar located in the nose. I'm sure Randy can tell us other differences. :)

As I recall, the C-97 didn't have the spiral stair to the lower level...or the bar. I could check, this one is open for tours; parked about 15 miles from where I'm sitting.

Chuckle, just came over here to this section because I saw B-377 on here. Yup, 97's had the "Boeing foot bar", we called it the footrest, good for (like Deakin said), "dozing for dollars". And we had dark plexiglas shades we kept in a canvas storage bag to put in all those cockpit windows, got hotter than Hades on a Pacific crossing. Had the later type airspeed indicators, same as the Lockheed T-33 had. And did anyone notice that old blue/yellow on the bottom of the ILS gauge? And that Pandemonium World Airways Stratocruiser in the photo didn't have the radar as the 97s did, we had an APS 42 scope in the center windshield. For the life of me I cannot remember now if we used water injection (ADI) on those R-4360s to get the 3500 horses or not, the last time I flew one was in 1967. Flap gauge, I see, is in percentages, 55% for our takeoffs and I liked 80% for landings, less tendency to land nosewheel first. Thinking back, I always told my students that the -1 (book) A/S of 130 knots wasn' t enough for a two engines out on one side landing, to use a little more to be sure of adequate control. Circular staircase? Only on the commercial ones, the 97s had hatch covers to go down to either the front or rear lowers.

best, randy

One of the guys that comes to our Sat. BPs "soup kitchen" was a NWA maintenance foreman and Dick remembers installing the radar on theirs over there later. The first one they put it on was (I think) #607, they called it "Rudolph with the radar nose".

best, randy

Virtual water

60" and no ADI = Virtual Engine Failure. :))

The company that makes this model does a very good job of modeling the various systems.
