I wouldn't think so, but I learned to fly at such a place. I could keep
track of the fact that I was, say, #4 to land by knowing the three tail
numbers ahead of me. Keeping track of my relative position would have been
much harder if we had all been simply "Cessna".

It can also help if the 172 pilots use "Skyhawk", 182 pilots use "Skylane",
etc. to set speed expectations. When I was teaching in 150s and 152s, I
would try to mention when we were doing short field work and were ahead in
the pattern because we would be much slower than the following guy was flying
and likely slower than he expected as well.

I always self announce as a Citation XL, but that doesn't seem to matter to the guys we end up in the pattern with, they end up cutting us out the pattern about 75% of the time.
