Was working at the ticket counter at O'Hare many years ago. A drunk with an attitude approached and asked, "When is the next flight to Chicago..."
Told him Sir, you are in Chicago.
"Don't give me that. WHEN is the next flight to Chicago."
"SIR, this is Chicago. You are at O'Hare."
Don't give me that CRAP! WHEN is the next flight to CHICAGO!"
"Ten O'Clock. You can just make it if you run to gate F-10."
Never saw him again.

When they get to WA... tell them to (a) go to Republic and bust some rocks at Stonerose, and (b) swing back by the Dry Falls.

Both interesting for getting to know the "inland Empire" part of the State, and really, the true meaning of "global warming" <g>
Fossils at Stonerose from when the the entire earth was warm (no polar ice caps) and the geology lesson of great floods at the Dry Falls, formed when ice dams at Lake Missoula burst repeatedly at the end of the last ice age about 12,500 years ago.

Reams -- I'll file that for my next trip west.....when the wimmen got to
Washington, they snapped a shot of some lava beds for me, headed over the
mountains and went directly to dinner in Seattle. <G>

Although I have lived in the SW and many places on the east coast a couple years ago was my first time to eastern WA. I'd never heard of Lake Missoula and the sudden emptying of it until then. I was utterly fascinated. I hope to get out there sometime again to really look at the geology. There is so much to see and do in this great country of ours.
I don't think there was anything about it in my geology textbooks. Of course that was, Ahem, a number of years ago! In fact, there is a little paragraph in the final chapter of my primary geology text about continental drift and plate tectonics and how it was a theory, but by no means considered likely or proven. I had an "old" textbook, but a young professor who disagreed with the book. He was one who believed in it, and was working to prove the theory that is so universally accepted now.

Taking a look at the Dry Falls, and a visit to Glacier Bay to see where the glaciers are today, as compared to when John Muir first visited the place, is a good place to start to learn about how ice comes and goes on planet Earth. Whether man was there to set the wheels in motion, or not....
