More logging cross country time
      #275127 - 12/04/09 08:02 AM

While we're on the subject, it's been posted elsewhere, but for those who haven't heard from another source, the FAA Chief Counsel's office recently issued a series of opinions on logging cross country time toward certificates and rating requiring the >50 minimum distance from the point of origin. As a group, they deal with (a) the permissibility of repositioning flights and (b) the requirement that the only pilot who can log the cross country time is the one who is the sole manipulator of the controls for the entire flight unless it is a 2-pilot-required crew (not including safety pilot ops).

Still at 7B9 I see. What's new and exciting?

(How's that for staying off topic?)

Well, town officials this week mailed paperwork to the Federal Aviation Administration for a feasibility study about the purchase of Ellington Airport.

At a special meeting Monday, the board of finance approved an appropriation for the $151,400 study. The town will pay $1,900 of the cost of the study.

The board of selectmen had earlier rejected the idea, but later approved it after the board of finance recommended that selectmen reconsider.

The study will look into several issues, including whether it would be beneficial for the town to buy the airport, officials said. The airport has been for sale for a while, and some developers have looked at it.

First Selectman said officials are trying to find out what potential the airport may have for the town.

Can you believe that?

Thanks for posting those letters. They'll help with the hanger discussions and our flight school.

Wow - would they be looking at extending the runway?

yep.

But it will never fly......

I would love the town to buy it and pump some money into the place but, Ellington hasn't changed much since you left. Still a suburban cow town, just with more homes in it now. There is really no commercial base who would/could utilize the airport.

BUT, I've been wrong before.

Best,

Tina

Good reason to keep the CFI current and log it as dual.

They haven't answered that one yet.

But given they way the FAA has generally handled CFI issues recently (especially confirming the logging of approaches done by a trainee in actual), I'm guessing they they'd say CFIs may log cross country time on dual cross country flights.

You never know though. I'd never have thought that on a 500 nm leg, if two private pilots switched off at the midpoint, neither would be able to log cross country time.
