I'd think that a TBM would look silly with two engines.

If you read through the survey, the questions lead to choices of air speeds of 300 knots or more and lowest altitude choice was FL360.

Gosh,
Once I told them we didn't intend to buy an aircraft until the economy got better, they just sent me on my merry way. i wonder why that was? <BG>

I didn't see that. Like Admiral Andy, when I indicated that I had no intention of buying an airplane anytime soon, the survey ended and all I had to do was enter for the raffle.

Too bad ya didn't get a chance to enter a narrative about why you needed a tail hook Andy!! Runway length of, say, 100 yards <g>

Tell that to BofA, which keeps calling me to get me to sign up for their "credit protection" scam.

The last time, when I refused, the salesguy asked me "well, what will you do if someone steals your identity," I answered "nothing that I want to discuss over an unsecured telephone line."

300 KTAS at FL360? Get out of the way! I'm doing M0.80 (~470 KTAS) and don't need the speed bump. :)

Yes, and the performance vs. price choices were given in TAS and $/hour, which took some figuring to see which one gave the lowest $/mile. The bottom two choices were 300kias and $750/hour, and 360kias and $900/hour. Which would you rather have? (i.e. wondering if they put the 300kt/$750 in there to filter out people who don't know how to divide).

Dunno about that. The radio commercials claim something like 98% accuracy at
160 WPM. That's about two errors per minute, which is unacceptable to me.

Well, no. But anyone who can make themselves understood by ATC and survive for his number of years can't be totally vocally challenged. Can they?

Well, me too. But how fast is Radny typing, and whats the error rate now? 98% might be an improvement... :-)

Of course, his current messaging just adds character to the messages and brings a smile to my face. If it ain't broke don't fix it?

Mavis Beacon

Back in the 20's the Royale Trype Writer Company was making a foray into airborne navigation. One of their technicians, James B. Mavis, a former locksmyth who became key bored, developed a series of radio beacons that were the forerunner of the A/N range, and became know as the Mavis Beacons.....

The first series was installed in the vicinity of Ramona, California and were known far and wide as the lost Ramona Mavis Beacon. Aviators who became skilled at entering the proper type of Beacon frequencies and maintained the proper course, we said to have taken the Mavis Beacon typing course.
