Yes, but THIS operating system goes up to 11!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm still on XP and will stay there as long as possible. A Dell leftover
Pentium box is being delivered today. The price was excellent and it comes
without HDD or operating system. I can legally build another XP server and
put five terabytes in it.

I still remember paying $1K for a 1Gb full-height disk. At that time,
$1/MEGabyte was a good price. Now, a GIGabyte costs about 3.5 cents on disk
and about 31 cents on a thumb drive.

As with all upgrades, I'll lose compatibility with some old programs and have to pay to update others. So, I'm staying with 7 a bit longer. May be one of those year-end things to do after all current files are backed up.

Tom, so far, them's about the best reasons I seen me yet ;-) Hmmm, El Capitan is a free upgrade for this Mac, what to do, what to do... ;-)

About that W10 free for a limited time bit, I wonder 'bout that.

- Windows 10 starts up faster than Windows 7
- The virus protection/anti-malware is supposed to be better

I'm not much of a Windows person, but recently upgraded my virtual machines to Windows 10. 90% seems the same. My programs continue to run (granted, I don't have many needs in that area). The login screen is different, but once past that, there are a few graphical differences, but the Start Menu is still there. The apps look about the same, except that the window frames now look like they were drawn by a 4th grader.

My main reason for upgrading -any- operating system or application is to stay closer to "supported" with the vendor. Windows does seem to move pretty slowly, so unlike on the Mac side, there is less pressure to stay within a year of the current release.

I just upgraded my second machine from Windows 7 to 10. This was on a virtual machine running on an iMac and it was completely painless, A pleasant surprise occurred when I tried to open a 16 bit dBASE program. It asked if I would like to reconfigure to an XP format for this program. I would, and it ran!

About what does he grumble? I haven't run into anything I don't like yet. Haven't really gone looking for differences, though...

Probably the same thing as other upgrades - "Where the **** did they hide that setting?"

I upgraded my wife's Lenovo laptop from 8.1 to 10 and she thinks 10 is better.

I'm going to stay with Win7-64 on my FS machine.
