I manually update Win, and only install "Important updates". Both machines are running OEM versions of W7Pro, no idea if that makes a difference <shrug>

I didn't get the systray "offer" icon until I installed some recommended updates. But so far no sign of odd folders in the root of my drive.

So I'm guessing that's where they're putting the W10 crapload? No offers here...

      #415537 - 09/19/15 06:24 PM Attachment (174 downloads)

And on a lighter note, somehow I've never noticed the chemtrails on the W7 splash screen ;-)

I'd expect that if you're not getting the offer (or should I call it pop-up advertising), then I wouldn't expect it to download in the background.

But there might be some more things that have to be installed for the silent download of W10.

I clicked on "Reserve a copy for me" when they made the initial offer, planning to let others be the guinea pigs...perhaps "reserve" meant "stage" in the sysadmin context.

Ah, that could be. I've just been clicking the "x". The offer isn't going anywhere for the next several months. It's not like Microsoft is going to run out of copies. I'm in no hurry. I see no advantage to reserving "now".

And the offer and enabling software most likely came with a recommended update. I don't browse from either Windows install, but figger I might as well stay current with the important stuff. Windows Update is usually the only time they're allowed to be online, a few app updates also.

Ugh. My main computer is now pushing W10. It came up as a "checked" optional update in today's "patch Tuesday". It was checked, even though I had set the update to not to install optional updates.

Still no sign of unauthorized install downloads.
