Hi Folks,

I don't remember who all here are verifiable Mac Geeks but I have a
question. I am considering a MacBook or MacBook Pro. Do any of you have any
advice on any of the mail order outfits? I have looked at MacConnection and
MacMall.

Other advice?

Johnny

Johnny,

Don't know about verifiable, (certifiable is more like it <g>).

My vote is Mac/PCconnection. If you have a business, you may want try the Small biz area of the PCconnection side. They sell all the Macs there too,

I've bought many boxes/parts over the years from them (3 MacBook Pro's and a mini in the last 8 months). Good service, accurate delivery estimates, and they often have some good online bundle/shipping deals.

Btw, if you can swing it, go with the MacBook Pro 17", 1GB RAM if you can. Worth the $$$ imo.

Hi Jim,

The 17 is just a little too big for me to carry on the airlines every week,
and my current 15 inch compaq barely has room on some airline seat back
trays. I am sure I would like the 17 though.

Now if you want to get rid of any 15's to go to 17 let me know...

Johnny

Know any Federal or University employees, students etc.? Apple gives them
discounts direct.

Hi Ed,

Yes, I am taking a photography class at the local college and my number 4 son
is a Senior at Abilene Christian University.

Check through the college stores, then. They probably have educational discounts from Apple.

Johnny,

I've always just dealt with the Apple Store.

http://store.apple.com/

Look on the right side of the page and click on "Education" for the student discount pages.

Me -- iBook G4
My wife -- iBook G4
My daughter -- Mac Book 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
My son -- eMac (and if he gets into MIT he gets whatever he wants. <G>)

All bought at the Apple Store and obviously, I'm pleased as I can be.

Johnny,

The 17 *is* a bit of a beast, size-wise, weight-wise, heat-wise on the knees too. Sure is pretty though.

Ahh, yeah, I'll do that, soon as I explain it wasn't really Santa <G>.

Hi Don,

Retirement! You and Deehan. I saw Mike about a year ago at HPN. He was
flying one of those dwarf or fake Gulfstreams.

Thanks for all the advice. I knew there would be some half hearted Mac
followers around here somewhere...<g>
