I'd like to copy some of my Outlook Express message files (sent and saved
messages) from one computer to another. I just bought a 2.0 GB memory
stick. What files do I need to copy? I tried clicking on "export" but that
didn't work. Thanks in advance!

Irv,

My OE files are kept here:
C:\Documents and Settings\karl\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A0A9D338-6408-4407-993F-2CAFFB7447D8}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Don't expect to copy them though, I don't think it will work. OE files are very picky.

Karl

Karl,

If you can find them, and you've identified the secret hiding place that MS picked, they are copy-able. I've done it several times.

You would think, wouldn't you, that MS would just have a Folder in My Documents called "My Mail" that contains all your OE mail, but WTFDIK.

Bob

Irv,

I think you can copy all of them by using the Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard and selecting the Outlook Express settings.

I don't know how to copy just some of them, though.

Ron -- Easy to do: the directory structure is apparent via Windows Explorer
once the location is found, and just copy the folders needed.

Irv,

To find out where your Outlook Express files are stored, click in the menu: Tools, Options, click the Maintenance tab, and click the "Store Folder" button.

You can then copy and paste the location into Internet Explorer (a regular explorer window will open) to access the folders.

I've copied the Inbox and Sent folders easily from one computer to another over the years with OE.

Ah, that's very different from Outlook. I never use OE.

Karl, Ron, Luc, and Rod,

Thank you very much. I don't suppose that there's a way to merge the
saved messages with saved messages on my other computer, is there? Or the
sent messages as well. I'd like to have a backup of messages that I've saved
and sent on each computer. If I could merge the two "sent" files and merge
the two "saved" files, I'd have what I wanted: A complete set of the
messages that I've sent and a complete set of the messages that I want to
save, in two seperate places.

Irv,

I use Outlook (not Express) but I've moved the messages using export/import
to a new computer. It's been a while so I don't remember the details but I
recall just following the menu prompts.
