stock brokers?
      #128664 - 10/04/06 03:03 AM

Recently I have gotten, at the rate of 2-3 a day, stock offers and recomendations from the same source, with a different sender and different domain each time.

I block sender/domain...what else can I do...?

Also, looking at a site about the Trade Center, and how the amount of fuel couldn't bring down a building....

I got an unsolicited porn page...how can I get this to occur again.<G>

Really, I've got a pop-up blocker, was this a referal from the "legitimate page" or was the "legitimate page" there only to get one set up for receiving the porn solicitation.

Or is there a roaming infection, that may occur again?

Jeff -- I get very little spam, but am getting the stock picks as well.
Started last month. Very annoying. Doesn't seem like there is anything to
be done.

I get about 50 spams a day to my main email account, but my ISP separates them out to my "bulk mail folder." I don't know what criteria they use to filter these, but it seems very effective. Hardly ever get any false positives and very little spam sneeks into the good mail. Takes me about 2 minutes every day to look at the list of spam to verify no real mail and delete the whole mess with one click.

Jeff,

Are you talking about pop-ups or email spam?

For email, I used to get all that stuff, but since using Cloudmark, I get almost none.

Re: Pop-ups, haven't gotten any pop-ups of that nature for quite some time. I no longer use an AV program (created more problems than it solved), but I use AdAware and SSD regularly.

And BTW, it just might possibly be a violation of the securities laws to offer securities for sale through pop-up ads, email and fax spam.

Best,

Bob

Yep. I have cloudmark on one computer and not on the other. The former gets no stock tips and the latter gets tons. Cloudmark works

The few spam messages out of hundreds I get each day which get by Cloudmark
are usually investment stock sprukers, Scott - one of the tricks they
employed in the last while is to send a photo of the page of their message,
so spam scanning programs cannot read the text.

I have forwarded my ATT messages to GMail, as I had heard they would be able
to clean up spam pretty well. Not so good - about one in twenty get through
GMail's filters.

I'm going to cancel my ATT account - recently I've been getting spam from
myself! With a spoofed address that is my own. Sheesh!

Thanks, Bob,Mase Scott, and /Rod,

I got the porn as a popup, the stocks started about a month ago as E-mails.

As a side note, I tried to log on to AVSIG at Flight safety in Wichita today....and it said it's corporate would not allow connection to this site....

I'll run the recommended programs..

If you're talking about spam email, there isn't much you can do. If you belong to a email list, then if you post one time, everyone has your email on their hard drive. If one member if the list is infected, then "they" have your email address.

So other then never participating, all you can do is filter it. I've found GMail very good for that.

Well, actually, there might be a trick although I've never tried it. When joining a list, join with two accounts. One to read and one to send. As the name implies, read with the "reading" account and post with the "sending" account. That way no one ever finds out your direct address and all the spam goes to the "sending" account. Of course, no one can reply directly to you, but that may be a minor issue. Although if you set up an auto-reply that directs people to the real address..... Hmmmmm.

I agree, spamnet does a good job of filtering the mail. I get about 500 emails a day. Of this, 99% are spam. About 5 get through spamnet.
