UAL Pilot Arrested For Questionable Side Job

"A United Airlines pilot has been arrested for running a string of brothels in apartment complexes throughout Houston.

Bruce Wayne Wallis, 51, was charged with aggravated promotion of prostitution and engaging in criminal activity, accused of running about a half-dozen brothel apartments with six to 10 women in each one."

Oops.

Maybe it isn't true. Maybe it was just a series of Flight Attendant crash pads with, er, er, active residents...

Hmmm, makes me wonder what constitutes non-aggravated promotion of prostitution.

He might not need it depending on how long he was at this - at those rates, he was grossing $14,400 to $24,000 a WEEK! Heck, that's more than Randy and Dux used to make flying real big jets!

And taxes?

We don't pay not steekin' taxes.

That is what will probably eventually get him. Tax evasion.

So if you have twenty crash pads with one lady in each, it's not aggravated? Ahhh, define enterprise.

Al Capone got it right, given the laws of his time. He had a house on the
IL/IN state line with the line painted down the middle of each floor. When
the cops from either state showed up, everyone was found to be in the other
state.

Ray T:

Al Capone might have gotten some things right, but did end up in prison. He also had a VD.

Most criminals do not live a pleasant life, and Capone was not the exception.

I have never thought that criminals were smart. I remember when I was working with a full-service FBO most of the drug runners were very obvious. There was one exception, yet he, too, ended up doing time.

I never meant to imply that he was smart or had an enjoyable life. This was
more like "even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes".

I did appreciate his inadvertant "gotcha" on Geraldo Rivera, though.

When I was CFI'ing at SNA, 1968-72, pretty much every instructor on the field was approached to fly drugs at one time or another...must have been quite a turnover.

The Piper FBO had a Cherokee Six that had to be retrieved from Mexico three or four times; in those days the FBO would get it back after the arrest. That eventually ended when asset forfeiture came into the picture...;-)

>>>Cherokee Six that had to be retrieved <<<<

When "Lease A Plane" was in business in the early 70s someone "Leased" their Cherokee 6. I went with a mechanic, tires, nitrogen, duct tape, and tools to retrieve it from a small strip south of Georgetown in the Bahamas called Hog Cay. It was hardly a strip, rocky etc. We had to tape up several bullet holes (none in the fuel system). No seats, we found one to sit on. No radios, no DIPSTICK! (more duct tape). We even had to duct tape the cowl , because they stole the fasteners. Short ferry to Georgetown and home. At PBI I gave up on all the NORDO stuff (after many attempts) and landed on the short runway, taxied to the base of the tower and pointed toward customs for a light. Then it was a big deal, but no arrest...

After working with the mechanic to replace one windshield and repair the holes, replace radios etc. it was returned to service.

I never got paid, the mechanic could, and did, use the lien option for his pay. The Lease A Plane owner said he should charge me for a Bahamas vacation ! (Mind you, this was in a time that some pilots worked for free or paid for flight time)

That same FBO had a Comanche stolen one night, and it turned up about a year later in Texas with the N-number altered. A lineman got suspicious when the number on the panel placard didn't match the one on the outside, and the pilot was arrested.

The FBO's chief pilot flew to Dallas to testify at the trial, but the defendant had jumped bail. About the same time, an airplane went missing at Mineral Wells...;-)

I know, I do tend to over react when people say anything that could possibly be interpreted as nice about criminals. Sorry 'bout that! I do have a right low opinion of them.

Randy S and Ray T:

>>>>> I feel that way about drunk drivers. <<<<<

There is a wonderful guy who will remain unknown. He was one more terrific seller of turbine aircraft. He was driving on the Interstate one night (after a meeting with a prospect) when a drunk going the opposite direction crossed the median and hit him head on. He has been partially paralyzed ever since, but continues to cope and to contribute to the world of aviation. I admire him greatly.

Back on my college days I coulda been that drunk driver. Gives me shivers to think of it.

Or, maybe not....

Quote:

Two of the eight women accused of being involved in a widespread prostitution ring said Thursday they do not know the United Airlines pilot accused of running the enterprise.

The women, or their lawyers, said they are aware they are being investigated as part of a larger criminal network, but denied any knowledge of a broader scheme or the alleged ringleader.

Link.

Is this defense attorneys being defense attorneys, or did the authorities really screw this one up?
