My best friend is a dentist (retired). He spent 4 years Army active duty and 25 years reserves. Every year he spent a month or so at Ft. Hood. He got it.

Sounds like "lack of external motivation" to me. <g>

Not sure they wanted to? I know if I'd spent 8 years in medical school and got drafted I wouldn't be too happy.

Hey, they should make a TV sitcom about that. Maybe set it in Korea. Make the docs funny, too. Should be a big hit!

And then, 30 years later, they could put it on Netflix <G>.

But first, you need to make a movie about it. :)

Extra Training Day at United [Re: Bill Bridges - 9S1]
      #421494 - 02/03/16 09:55 AM

We had a draftee doctor arrive in our unit a month or so after I got there.
He wasn't too happy, but he did bring a copy of "Handbook of Tropical
Medicine", which was very helpful in figuring out what was up with some of
the Vietnamese. He did his job well, though.

His unhappiness started on day one. There wasn't a place for him to sleep
his first night (arrived late in the day), so he put up his poncho on four
sticks, each with a piece of commo wire at 45 degrees to a stake, so the
poncho was stretched out flat about 2.5 feet above his air mattress. He tied
the poncho hood shut and dropped a mosquito net over the rig. That was
almost clever enough, given the hot weather.

He woke up because something was on his belly. It was a sagging poncho full
of monsoon rain water. He opened his eyes just in time to see the poncho
split in half from the strain.

United is going to have an extra training day for it's pilots.

Might do better to train their other employees and maintenance personnel. As a United platinum flyer, I am beginning to consider switching airlines. At least half my flights in the last couple months have been late or totally screwed up. Took 20 hours to get home from Louisville, via Dulles in the end. Took 14 hours to get home from Minneapolis last week. Both times they lied about the cause, which was a mechanical, first one they blamed on ATC, second they blamed on late arriving crew. I could go on ad nauseam. Late is bad, but late and screwing up connections is worse. And, pretty much nobody at United seems to give a damn. Despite filling out negative responses to email surveys that conveniently are never for the flights that are directly screwed up and inviting them to contact me, never happens. Tried emailing, just get a boilerplate response. If their goal is to chase away good customers, they are succeeding.
