Are there any other similar operations?

I agree that customers might like more gray hair, but a cheap first officer on aircraft (Phenom 300) that are designed to be single pilot would be a good thing business wise.

Terry,

For that to work the Feds need to change the rule that says a copilot can't log time in a single pilot airplane, unless the pilot has a restriction that says they require a copilot. Or it is 135 with an op spec.

nothing clever to say right now...

Well, a presentation last August at the annual 4 day ALPA Air Safety Forum, noted that our international aviation community will need 50,000 new commercial pilots in the next 10-12 years.

None of the presentation group had any idea how this could be accomplished. Yes, more pay for junior feeder jet copilots, well more pay for pilots in general.

I'm afraid that we have reached the peak of commercial aviation safety. Nope, it will remain high -but perhaps, by just a little bit, decrease. Cockpit experience levels will drop to a very low level IMO.

The international cockpit experience level for 1st Officers has been a major problem already -and will get worse as it expands to Captains. How do you crash a B-777 on a visual approach in perfect weather and mostly wind down the runway?
And not listen to the, not too loud, comments from the junior 1st Officer in the jump seat?

Thus even 5,000 hours (autopilot) do not guarantee a good pilot.

The international commercial pilot shortage is REAL.

Regards,

Dux -from Tucson
