That would be fun. Bet it flies a lot like the DC8, only slower.

Not only slower, heavier! Chum of mine did the rating ride, that was just before they shelled that 3350 at Charlotte (or, as Dux is wont to say, 3348).

Randy,

Do you know anyone who like the DC-7 more than the DC-6? The AA and BN guys I used to drink coffee with loved the DC-6, not so much the DC-7.

Nope, always liked the DC-6s the best. Lloyd Aereo Boliviano (LAB) had bought theirs surplus from American.

Like Bill Atkins (think Atkins anti-collision strobe lights) told me one day: "The DC-6 is a 4 engine airplane with 3 blades, the DC-7 is a 3 engine airplane with 4 blades".

Although I qualified as an FO on the 6 and 7 I only flew them on the line for a few months as an FE. I only had one trip on the DC7, a freighter from JFK to ORD. The thing I remember most is the crew being picked up by a Cadillac limo at the freight terminal for a layover at the Palmer house. It sure beat any BOQ I ever stayed in. What a different world it was then.

I did have one engine shutdown, for a shorted secondary if I recall. I have to go back through those old red log books,

Best,

Ken
