Actually, I was surprised to see that most of the reactions, after the original startle, were pretty positive. Except for the flight attendant, of course. <g>

I can remember the first cabin P.A. I heard from First Officer Emily Howells, departing DEN. Most of the people around me knew exactly who she was and were pretty excited about the whole thing.

I had the experience of being on the first TWA flight with an all-female crew - cockpit, and cabin.

Mase,

>>I had the experience of being on the first TWA flight with an all-female crew - cockpit, and cabin. <<

I was on an early morning American flight from Wichita to Chicago in the mid '80s. Boeing 727. Got on, fell asleep for much of the flight. As we taxied in at O'Hare the lead flight attendant announced that it was the very first airline flight with an all-female flight crew. Passengers all applauded loudy. I've still got the 99s magazine with that flight crew's picture on the cover, taken in front of the jet at ORD.

In about 1980 Air Midwest was running Metros through the oil country of the southern Midwest. Fair number of robe-clad mideasterners were riding the airline in Kansas and Oklahoma, oil boom was getting rolling and the flights were regularly running full with a standby list. Air Midwest had one female captain. Every time one of the mideastern folks would walk out to a flight she commanded, once he saw that the captain was a woman, he would turn around and go back into the terminal. Wouldn't ride on the flight. The agents got a good laugh out of the bigotry, and some standbys got on otherwise full flights. Agents weren't terribly cooperative with the refusniks.

Warmest regards,
Rick

No, I didn't. Anyway, you pretty much need broadband to make videos work on
the Internets.
