V-tail Bonanza for sale

Our 1967 Bonanza is on the market for $57,000. It has a high time IO-550 and could use interior upgrades, however it flys great and looks very nice, too. Here is a link to photos and docs: N2785T

How many hrs on the engine?

Found it 1882 at annual.
Looks like a good buy.

What would I do with a Bonanza??? :)

Go places. It is a fine cross-country machine. I have used it to fly from Duluth to Baton Rouge, from Kalamazoo to Denver, and from Wausau to Bozeman, and have used it to cross Lake Michigan more than 400 times.

What is the tbo on that Continental and how many hours over tbo can you typically run them?

Would you like me to post this info where I work?

Re: V-tail Bonanza for sale

Mitch, recommended TBO is 1700. I don't know what others have experienced going past TBO, however, I follow Mike Busch's philosopy to run engines until they tell you they need help. Four of the cylinders were replaced during the last 800-900 hours.

Yes, feel free to post or pass on the information. I would very much like to sell this airplane before my wife retires next spring.

If I happen to win the lottery before she retires, I will keep the airplane and have the interior upgraded... but I would not do anything with the engine until it needs it.

I posted it on our pilot board where I work.
Good luck!

Thanks, Mitch. I have a guy coming for a pre-buy inspection next weekend. I hope he likes what he finds.

"Motivated seller." My wife thought I was asking too much. She hates to negotiate and wanted me to accept the first offer.

When we got close in price I was able to add a little value (GPS with XM weather, oxygen tank) to close the deal. I also offered to deliver the airplane to the Twin Cities to reduce travel expenses for the ferry pilot.

Good job Gil. Nice planes like this seem to be moving when priced right. Hope we do as well on our 58P when we put it on the market.

Best,

Dave

Not sure, John... just now looking at listings for Cherokees and smaller Beechcraft. Only part of the money from the sale is available to reinvest in rivited aluminum.

Spoken like a politician. Didn't say a thing about fiberglass...;-)

Re: V-tail Bonanza for sale

Sorry, Ralph. Fiberglass is not on the radar. I have flown some composite airplanes, but I just don't understand them. I do have a conception of the likely strength of metal.

It is just one of my personal shortcomings.

Thanks, Scott. I delivered it to St. Paul this morning, where a ferry pilot took the keys and by now has arrived in California.

I'm not sure if I should offer congratulations or condolences.... perhaps some of both would be appropriate.

I gotta ask... where in California is it headed?

Somewhere about an hour east of Los Angeles. I forget the name of the airport. FlightAware shows it enroute to Colorado after I gave up the keys, but no arrival information or destination after that leg.

No condolences necessary. I enjoyed owning it and now I enjoy looking forward to something else. And I am very happy that I did not have to endure a lot of hopeful showings and lowball offers.

Re: V-tail Bonanza for sale

So, an update:

After I sold the Bonanza as I promised my wife, we paid down our debt and found we had about $30K left over. I started shopping for little airplanes so I would have something to fly.

We wound up with a PA-28-140 with only 500 hours on the 160hp engine and just 3000 total time. Decent, but very dated, radios and instruments. Average exterior.

People have asked me if I miss the high performance. I tell them, "Yes, ever since my last flight in the T-38."

Ah yes, "government gas". <g>

Reminds me about batting along one day, Connie Edwards was in the A-26 ahead and I was trying to catch him, couldn't get it done, watched him up ahead a l-o-n-g time so finally I radioed him "Dang'it Wilson, just how fast is that 26 anyhow?" Connie answered me, "Government gas or Edwards gas?"

Kinda how I felt after flying the CH-54 (better climb rate than F-4 to 10,000M). :))
