Fun Blue Angels video:

I particularly like the inverted low pass in formation....

Scott,

I don't think I've seen a cockpit view of the Angels. Very cool, though I wish I heard the radio throughout that. Gotta watch that again tonight.

That footage really demonstrates that when you're flying good formation, there's really no "up" or "down", only "closer" or "sucked". As long as you're in the correct position, You use the same control motions to maintain that position, whether you're inverted or upright.

The diamond join on takeoff _is_ a little breathtaking!!!

Hey, I can see my house!

That was filmed at their practice session over the Academy last month. Nifty indeed.

Joe

Re: Blue Angels

It was one of the technical sessions. Colin Aro of Cool Rain Aviation in Reno, NV discussed formation flying, learning and doing formation flying. One of the Sig members Christian Goetske is a member of the Grumman group.

He discussed how they perform the maneuvers and the intensive training needed for it. Impressive! They have levels of trainees and must pass proficiency tests before they can move up.

He described the sight pictures, the signals used and how the various maneuvers were performed. I'll have a much better appreciation now when I go to airshows.

I've flown the slot in a lot of diamonds, but I never tried to join before I got the gear up!!!!
