C-180A Resto

I am at the end of a year and half project to restore my Skywagon. It has soaked up so much of my time that I think I forgot how to fly;) Anyway here are some before and after'

Beautiful!

The "before" looks good, too. What motivated the restoration project?

Great looking! So, who's going to polishing all that bare metal from here on out? ;)

Best regards,
Andy

Bill-

No, I live at 50F and the museum moved to Spinks (FWS).

Well, that's why I painted as much as I did. To reduce the polish surface area... and notice that it is the easiest to polish;) I use Carnauba Wax to delay oxidation and it works very well.

Nice work, like the classic look.

50F, just looked it up, nice field...(really nice field)

Next Texas race we need to stop by the museum.

Ray-

Well, the before looks good from 20'. Up close you could tell that it had a few rattle can touchups among other things. But if you know me, you'll know of my disease. I can't own an airplane without fixing it up.

I've tried to go to AA for this, but there is no 12 step program to fix this. It is a burden. Plus the airplane needed it!

C-180A Resto

Understood. I grew up near Detroit and got my hands on a lot of cars, though
I was a working parts guy, not a body guy. Electronics, then moving away
from Detroit, followed by electrical engineering and software engineering was
almost a cure.

I still do all the routine maintenance on my cars and such repairs as don't
require a lift or an engine hoist. I also do all my own accessory
installatiions.

The underside of the wing would be fun indeed. You'd have to do a da Vinci act...;-)

Hi Andy and others,
Reminds me of a time long ago. Stationed at Pease AFB. Had been with the 509th maintaining KC-97s. During my last few months there Id transferred to the Base Flight operation in order to have hands on with the two base flight C-47s. I remember the first time I saw one. I actually thought it musta had new wing root fairings installed. (the grass seemed greener) A very laid back operation. The only downside was they both had significant acreage of polished aluminum. Youd no sooner get finished and itd be time to start all over again <ng>. Ha . . . hands on wish fulfilled.

Regards,
Tom Charlton
