What is the current advice for a cable modem and router. I have had good luck with the advice for the Motorola cable modem and NetGear wifi router I got here. Thanks. |

I've become a big fan of the twin sites, "The SweetHome" and "The Wirecutter." I can't say I automatically choose what they select, but I will certainly read their whole article: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cable-modem/ http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-router/ or http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cheap-router/ I own an Arris cable modem because I needed something that would support the voice services from Comcast. I've got an older Asus N66 router with some alternate firmware. If I had computers that supported the 802.11ac format, I'd get a newer router than supported that format. John |

I'm sort of out of the loop on the current stuff. No problems with the bands mentioned. |

Thanks everyone. I have the older SB3120 (I think that is the desigation) recommended here. So the newer SB6141 seems like the ticket. I do wonder about the "end of life" issue, especially since I have a MUCH older cable modem. I had the NetGear 3700N (again I think) that was also recommended. I did replace the router last year, as the older one died. I got another NetGear, not sure which one, but have been happy with it. |
