Re: My Stratus 1 for sale on eBay

And while we are discussing IPads...I have an Ipad 1, we carry an IPad 3 in the plane. My 1 will run all day, the 3 is down to 40% after a 2 hour flight.

Is this normal, or am I running something in the background that is sucking electrons?

The iPad 3 and iPad 4 have the retina display, which has 4 times as many pixels that need to be independently lit. The iPad 3 and 4 need a lot more battery power to drive that display. It is much more important with the newer, retina iPads to turn the display brightness down. During normal indoor use, I'm typically at just under 50% brightness. When in the cockpit, I'll put it at 70% if I need to (or more, if I really need to) but run it back down to near 50% if I'm just following along with ForeFlight, for example.

Of course it is possible you are running something that is sucking down power in the background. Apps are "supposed" to go into a sleep mode automatically when they are not the foreground application, but I've had a few that seemed to misbehave. I find it beneficial to quit applications that I'm not using when I'm trying to extend battery life.

With my iPad 4, I can usually get 6 hours out of it in the plane, by quitting unused apps, and reducing the brightness regularly.
