The main differences between the Merlyn turbonormalizer and the TAT is no intercooler. No detonation, either, even at FL200 or Phoenix in September when OAT on ground was 110+. Manufacturer tested under the most adverse conditions for FAA detonation survey, and says the design of his system eliminates the need for intercooler at FL230 and below. So far, I agree.

Other goodies:
Gross weight increase to 5,700 lbs.
Single engine ceiling increase to 16,000'.
No change in cowling or nacelle mold lines.
Sea level manifold pressure to 23,000'.
220KTAS cruise.
